Making A Den Together

We love it when we see a group come together to make something they can all play with together afterwards. This time it took the form of a den which actually stood for a whole week and coped with a lot of play, before it got a bit squished and had to be packed away.

All The Chairs

The benefits of being the first to arrive to a play session at The Shop of Possibilities is that you pretty much have the run of the space, the pick of all the materials and often the attention of the staff. Junior kick started this particular session by gathering ALL the chairs in the space, which in turn provided a pretty good prompt for the other children when they arrived.

Happy New Year!

 

We love the holiday season at Play Local, because although it may be getting colder and darker, everyone is excited about all the festivities which makes for some super enthusiastic play!

 

Here's some of that play from the past month to kick start your 2016:

 

We brushed up on our DIY skills

Put up the Christmas tree

Found our rhythm

Decorated the place

Then we went to visit our friends at Oasis Adventure Playground in Stockwell, and it was AMAZING!

 

We found a hidden sandpit

 

Did some balancing in the forest

 

Cut some firewood

Played in the outdoor kitchen

Gave wheelbarrow rides

Went down the big slide together

And rode go karts!

We drilled holes in stuff...

...and drilled holes in other stuff

 



We made snowflakes

Used a lot of glitter

Fashioned a rather stylish hat out of a Christmas Wreath

Made more mess with glitter

Wrapped pressies...

 

...and covered more stuff with glitter!

 

Festive Wishes from Play Local!

 

All the staff and children from Play Local would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Two Types of Tent

The afternoon began with a couple of children helping us to set up some materials outside, they described what they were doing as making a washing tent. It was a bit rainy and blustery but was not particularly cold so the girls persevered with their set up until they had completely finished.

 

Then as it started to get a bit darker, they decided it would be best to make a tent inside. So with the help of one of our playworkers, they draped a giant piece of fabric over the slide to create an instant tent. The holes in the fabric let some light through creating an almost magical hidden space within The Shop of Possibilities. Then they furnished it with seats and cushions, and then spent most of the afternoon in the den!

 

Then it got even bigger the next day!
